Night Out workshops provide a fun, relaxed, adults-only environment for you to try your hand at art-making. Bring your own wine; light snacks are provided. Ages 21 and up.


Mud + Merlot: Spoon Rests 

Bring your cooking buddies to Laumeier’s clay studio for an evening of creativity and fun! Learn how to design and build a unique spoon rest that is perfect for a messy night of cooking. Throughout the evening, participants will also be invited to take turns on the wheel to create a bonus spoon rest while experimenting with colorful slips and fun spiral designs. Bring your own wine (or other beverage of your choice); light snacks provided. Pick up your finished piece the following week.

Mud + Merlot: Chickens in the Kitchen 

Add a little charm and cluck to your countertop! Join us in the clay studio to sculpt whimsical chicken-themed kitchen companions. Participants will learn handbuilding and sculpting techniques while using colorful slips, textures, and embellishments to bring their poultry-inspired pieces to life. Bring your favorite adult beverage; light snacks provided. Pick up your finished piece the following week.

Mud + Merlot: Impressions of the Forest

Take an evening stroll at the Park and let the woods inspire your next masterpiece! We’ll begin with a short, guided walk through Laumeier’s grounds to mindfully forage fallen pine needles, catalpa leaf clippings, bark textures, and more. Head back to our indoor clay studio and learn how to incorporate these botanical treasures into a functional ceramic project. Complete your creation by adding colorful underglazes and other embellishments before leaving the studio. Bring your favorite adult beverage; light snacks provided. Pick up your finished piece the following week.

Mud + Merlot: Abstract Printed Plates

Unleash your inner printmaker — in clay! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll start with a generous slab of clay and explore the vibrant world of mono-printing using Gelli plates and colorful underglazes. Layer textures, patterns, and colors to create a one-of-a-kind design, then transform your printed slab into a functional plate using molding techniques. No experience necessary — just a sense of play! Bring your favorite adult beverage; light snacks provided. Pick up your finished piece the following week.

Tuck away treasures, trinkets, or jewelry in your own handmade ceramic box! Enjoy a relaxed evening of creativity and conversation as you sip your favorite beverage and connect with fellow adults in the clay studio. Learn how to use studio templates to construct a functional box with clean corners and strong seams. Add your own creative flair with texture, carving, or surface decoration to create a truly one-of-a-kind piece that will be a special addition to your home or a thoughtful handmade gift. Bring your favorite adult beverage; light snacks provided. Pick up your finished piece the following week.

ON + OFF THE WHEEL

Work with clay on or off the wheel, or take turns so everyone experiences the best of both worlds! Create functional and decorative clay pieces using both hand building and wheel throwing techniques following an instructor demonstration; select from a variety of glazes to complete your piece. Possible projects include cups, bowls, vases, tiles, plates and sculptures. BYOW (bring your own wine!). Pick up your finished piece at Laumeier the following week. 8-person minimum / 16-person maximum
 

WINE + WHEEL WITH FRIENDS

Create with clay while sipping cabernet or chardonnay! Gather your friends to try your hands at the potter’s wheel in a relaxed, fun and light-hearted environment. Make wheel-thrown objects including cups, bowls or vases following an instructor demonstration; select from a variety of glazes to complete your piece. BYOW (bring your own wine!). Pick up your finished piece at Laumeier the following week. 8-person minimum / 11-person maximum
